Imagination combined with quality, service and incomparable value are what
our clients have come to expect at Elsa Rings
We're Talking : Heavy Metal
If you're buying a diamond ring, you'll need a quality band. Elsa's advice? Go platinum. It's hypoallergenic, timeless and impressive. The price difference over gold is usually just a few hundred dollars. In the grand scheme of things, this isn't the place to skimp. (Unless of course, you prefer Gold.)
Metal Quality
Finely made rings have a quality mark imprinted on the inside. Examples of such etched markings are: 14K for 14 Kt gold, 925 for sterling silver, and 950 Pt (or 850 Pt) for platinum.
While we prefer 18 Kt gold, others prefer platinum, 14 Kt gold or sterling silver. 24 Kt gold is considered too soft. Platinum tends to show very little wear as it is more durable than gold.
High quality rings can be re-polished by a jeweler if they get scratched.
Casting Quality
Rings that are not cast well can wear out or possibly break. Look at the quality of the casting and the amount of metal that was used - the width of the ring or its setting. Well casted rings have no pits (often from air bubbles in the casting process). The ring band should be thick enough around the whole ring so it will not wear out or break. Low quality jewelry often has really thin bands around the back of the ring.
Prong Settings
Stones set in rings with prongs need at least 4 prongs to ensure that the stone will stay in the ring. Prongs should be evenly spaced around the stone. These prongs should be strong. If the stone has corners (such as a marquis cut stone), the corners of the stone should be protected.
Channel Settings
Channel settings are one of the most misused settings in the industry. Be certain that there is a real channel that the stones are set in -- rather than an impression with a thin additional bit of metal holding the stone in place.
When there is a real channel, the stones will not come out under normal wear.

Diamonds Are Exquisite!
Love To Buy a diamond ring, but hesitant about the process? And the cost?
The web can give you the education about diamonds you need in order for you to know how to buy a diamond with confidence and in comfort.
How To Determine If A Diamond Ring Is High Quality
You should protect yourself from buying poorly made jewelry displayed as fine or high quality jewelry - as well as from jewelers who substitute cubics (such as sidestones) for diamonds.
How do you tell if the fine jewelry you want to buy is of high quality? What do you look for? It's almost impossible to see the difference between a genuine stone and a fake ... Your best resource to educate yourself about gemstones and diamonds is the Gemological Institue of America.
Diamond Clarity
Clarity ranges from flawless (perfect) to I (included). Here is a quick chart:
Flawless: perfect inside and out
Internally Flawless: may have minor blemishes on the outside
VVS1, VVS2: have very very small inclusions. VVS1 inclusions can only be seen through the pavilion. VVS2 inclusions are more visible.
VS1, VS2: have very small inclusions. VS1 inclusions are harder to see than VS2.
SI1, SI2, SI3: have small inclusions
I1, I2, I3: have inclusions visible to the naked eye
